Netherlands breezes past Thailand for the competition second victory

Mexicali, Mexico, July 17, 2009- Netherlands used the tall towers in the center and the strong hitters in the wings to breeze past Thailand 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-9) in 63 minutes match that showed again a brave struggling from Thai players after only 14 hours following their thriller five setter against Mexico in the first day. The victory improved Netherlands record to 2-0 in the second day of the 2009 Women’s Junior World Championship pool A matches held here at Auditorio del Estado Ciudad Deportiva hall in Mexicali, Mexico on Friday. Making some substitutions in the starting lineup, Netherlands head coach strategy depended on using the tall centers Nicole Koolhaas and Jeanine Stoetenin position 3 to stop Thailand attacks and also to use the strong spike service to disturb the defense of the opponent while Thailand coach manage to use the wing spikers out of reach of the block and through these strategies Netherlands had the upper hand till they led 8-5 at the FTT. Through some mistakes done by the Thai defense, Netherland continued leading 20-13 by the spikes of Quirine Oosterveld and Anne Buijis till they won the set 25-17.
 Thailand started the second set more coordinated in defense and also as they improved the reception and Surasawadee Boonyuenspiked well from position 4 to decrease the point deficit after the score was 8-5 for Netherlands at the FTT. Thai enthusiastic players scored 4 successive points to lead for the first time in the match 9-8. Again Netherland used the tall towers at the net to stop the Thai attacks and also for the well known quick attacks to regain the lead 16-10 at the STT. Thai players fought well in the backline defense and succeeded to penetrate the solid Netherlands block through the combinations led by the setter Soraya Phomia to bring the draw 20-20 before the experience settled the situation for Netherlands 25-21. 
 The third set showed easier function for Netherlands as they took the matter seriously and played a fast game to win comfortably 25-9 and the match in straight sets.
