Four teams remain unbeaten

Ankara, Turkey, July 25, 2005 - Four teams remained unbeaten after the third day of the 2005 FIVB Junior Women’s U20 World Championships. They are Brazil and Serbia & Montenegro (Pool A, Ankara) and Russia and China (Pool B, Istanbul) with three successive wins.

On the other hand, Croatia (Pool A), Dominican Republic and Egypt (Pool B) had three successive defeats. Italy recorded two wins (Pool B) whereas Japan, USA, Turkey (Pool A) and Puerto Rico (Pool B) had only one victory.

Hosts Turkey suffered a second shock defeat in Ankara after losing 3-1 in the Balkan battle against Serbia & Montenegro putting Serbia & Montenegro on top of Pool A with Brazil. In the derby of Pool B, China beat Italy 3-2 after a tremendous battle, leaving Russia and China at the top of Pool B.

In Pool A in Ankara, USA won their first game by beating Japan 3-2 while Brazil, in the second game of the day, played superbly to beat Croatia 3-1.

In Pool B in Istanbul, Puerto Rico beat Egypt easily in straight sets to collect their first victory. Egypt with three defeats now has no chance to continue after the preliminary round. Russia clearly superior to the Dominican Republic 3-0 and with their third successive win are now at the top.
