Brazil Team |
The Brazilian junior women’s national team is after one more
title for the Brazilian trophy cabinet to add to the
plethora of silverware already won.
The U20 women’s team, coached by Wadson Lima, will be
attempting to win its fourth gold medal in the World
Championship this year in Thailand.
In 2001, Brazil, coached by Antonio Rizola, won the World
title after defeating Korea in the final in the Dominican
Republic. Brazil won their two other titles in 1987 and
1989.
On three occasions Brazil finished second in 1991, 1995 and
1999.
Brazil dazzled during their 2001 triumph turning on a
performance full of ability and beauty. Many players from
that generation went on to represent the senior squad,
particularly Paula, Sassá and Scheilla.
Brazil will arrive in Thailand this year as serious
contenders to win another gold medal due to the fact they
have retained the nucleus of the side which won the silver
medal at the 2001 Youth World Championship in Croatia and
have gained valuable experience in such elite events as the
Pan American Games.
