The
Polish Junior men’s team is based on current and former players
from the Polish Federation’s Volleyball school (SMS – in Polish).
SMS, located in one of Poland’s Olympic Games Arrangement
Centers in Spala, is already very well known from its training
programs, which allowed Polish youth and junior national teams
to achieve top rankings in the past World and European
Championships.
Six out of eight of last year’s SMS graduates are to be found in
the line ups of Polish top division clubs and successfully
performed in the 2002/2003 league season. One of them, Michal
Winiarski from Galaxia Czestochowa was even called up to the
Polish senior national team by head coach Waldemar Wspanialy, to
the wider World League selection.
The performances on the international arena have also been
impressive. Many of the team were involved when Poland finished
5th at the Boys U19 World Championship in Egypt in 2001 while
another select few were members of the 2001 Youth side which
collected the silver medal at the 2001 European Championships.
Last year Poland finished fifth at the Junior European
Championship in Poland.
