Brazil wins South American Championship gold


Brazil emerged victorious at day four of the South American Championships

Icaa, Peru, September 21, 2013 - Without losing a set in the four games played, Brazil dominated the South American Championships on Saturday, giving them a place at the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Championships in Italy and the FIVB Volleyball Grand Champions Cup in Japan later this year. 

Argentina and Peru also received a place at the podium and will play with Colombia and Venezuela in the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship Italy 2014 CSV Qualification Tournament that will take place from October 24 to 27.

Colombia 3, Chile 0

Colombia secured their first win in the tournament beating Chile 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-19) in an hour and 15 minutes, securing a  place at the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship Italy 2014 CSV Qualification Tournament to be held in next October, in the city of San Juan .

With 16 points, attackers Paola Ampudia of Colombia and Chile Lucia Lozano shared the top scorer post.

After the loss to Peru, Colombia turned the page and came prepared to sentence the story in only three games, that's why that won the first set without much trouble.

Chile awoke in the second set and fought each ball point to point, however, not enough to close the part that is what ultimately led the Colombian sextet by the minimum difference.

Chile continued to adjust in the third set but their errors, which were used by the Colombian ended up burying his chance to force a fourth set to fall after a hard struggle.

"Really the team's goal was not met, but we are trying to do our best," said Colombia player Cindy Ramirez. "I believe that our team is very balanced, not so many differences between banking and headlines." 

"We play as a youth team, had a great time college volleyball," said Chile coach Hugo Jauregu. "It's very high error level good we do not maintain, lack accumulate experience , many girls are very young."

Brazil 3, Venezuela 0

Brazil won their 18th South American Championship title in the second confrontation of the day, Saturday. The Brazilians beat Venezuela in straight sets 3-0 ( 25-20, 25-20, 25-17) in an hour and 18 minutes. With Argentina 's victory over Peru , Brazil is guaranteed a place at the FIVB World Championships in Italy next year.

The top scorer of the match was Fernanda Garay with 13 points, followed by the Venezuelan Maria Jose Perez who scored 12 points.

Venezuela began to force the first set, taking advantage of its scope in blocking strong offensive complicating the Brazilians, who were the most effective of the championship. As the game progressed, Brazil managed to get a slight advantage that helped him close the set in their favor.

Brazil coach Ze Roberto led by a steamroller in the first points of the match , reducing the attack Venezuela , during the Venezuelan party adjusted the score not enough to prevent the Brazilian two sets are put up.

Despite being the team that best played in Brazil , Sergio Rivero pupils failed to snatch a set. The mark of errors that had worried the Brazilians left Brazil coach who at the close of the tournament will face Peru in defining the championship title.

Fernanda Garay also commented on the game against the ladies of the house and swollen Ica : "People here are very warm , make lots of noise , are identified with volleyball because they had great players that were very glorious , so tomorrow will be a tough game." 

"We played more relaxed," said Maria Jose Perez of Venezuela. "Playing against Brazil is always an honor to have very good players and are games that we learn and we also used as preparation for World Pre."

Argentina 3, Peru 1

Argentina defeated Peru  3-1 (25-23, 17-25, 25-20, 25-23) in an exciting match that took place before 7,000 people at the Ica Indoor Coliseum.

Lucia Fresco's game was the highlight , the Argentina accumulated 21 points and was the top scorer. The Peruvian Karla Ortiz was in second place with 15 .

Despite public pressure, the Argentine took advantage of poor Peruvian block with the best attackers entered a defense that despite being one of the best in the tournament could do little to push through the first set.

The Peruvian recovered his best game in the second set and based on a good defensive system that allowed the setter develop their best game, equalized on aggregate.

The directed by Guillermo Orduna came decided to victory, led by a diverse offense and a block that stopped at local consolidated their superiority and won a set that the closer to victory.

The joy ended when Peruvian fans saw their team did not find answers to an Argentina that played with much collective and individual level . The defense was the strength of the run by Sung Jin Hong decayed leaving the way clear for the Argentinians join three points.

Guillermo Orduna coach was proud of his team: "I am proud of the work done by my team, play here is very difficult, not only because Peru is a good team but because he is playing against history. It was a challenge and the team recovered well." 

"The team claw pulled today was different," said captain of Argentina, Emilce Sosa. "I love playing with all these people, a full stadium is beautiful." 

 

Vanessa Palacios, Peru libero lamented the defeat. "Today we had the level shown or concentration, gave everything to the end but it was not enough, now just prepare to face the Premundial!"
