USA carry on with their 2013 campaign with
coach John Speraw. Although they placed sixth at the 2013 World League Finals,
they easily got back on track to win gold at the NORCECA continental finals at
Langley, Canada, to earn them the ticket to the World Grand Champions Cup. USA
are slowly getting in top form and are hoping to reinstate their reign.
In 2012, USA played their most sound performances of the last four years,
winning the NORCECA Olympic Qualification, finishing second at the World League
and fifth at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Under Alan Knipe, USA finished
2011 with a record of 26-15. They advanced to the World League Finals and
finished seventh. The team ended the quadrennial with a record of 81-35.
USA had its best season ever in 2008 when it won the World League title and the
Olympic gold medal. The side opened their campaign by winning the NORCECA
Olympic qualification with a 5-0 record, without dropping a set. They beat
Serbia to pick up World League gold then followed up with a gold medal win over
Brazil at the Beijing Olympics. The USA team had been looking to return to its
prominence in the ‘80s and ‘90s when it won two Olympic golds (1984, 1988) and
a bronze (1992) as well as the World Cup (1985) and World Championship (1986).
