Thais gave us a hard time: Kwiek

Dominican Republic Coach Marcos Kwiek

I'm glad we won. The Thai team was strong, so it was a difficult game.

It was clear that today's game was a very high level because the teams were the kings of Asia and Northern and Central America.

In the first set, the Thai serve was good and the receiving of our team was bad. We were nervous. So in the second set, we changed the rotation and found our rhythm. Both teams seemed upbeat.

Our team is very young and made some mistakes, so we're trying to improve in every match.

Dominican Republic No. 1 Annerys Vargas

Thailand is an Asian team and has good speed, so we thought it would be a hard match to win. Although we lost in the first set, we were able to get our rhythm back in the second set. In the first set, our spirit was weak, but in the second, we switched from defensive mode to attacking mode.

Thailand Coach Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai

First, I would like to congratulate the Dominican team. We have played each other in recent years and I feel their technique has improved every year.

Today, we played well. In the first set, our serving and counterattack worked well and we were able to win the set. But from the second set, the Dominican team changed their strategy and their blocking became much stronger, so we couldn't stop their attack.

In the fourth set, it was close, so I think it was exciting for the spectators, but the Dominicans counterattack was strong and we lost.We will try to improve and do better tomorrow.

(What do you think about tomorrow's match against Japan?)

I don't think it will be much different from the one last month. It will be a difficult game. Japan is the host country in this Champions Cup, so they have many fans. The Japan team has good technique – defense, attack and combination – and they also have a good setter, so tomorrow's game will be difficult for us.

Thailand No. 6 Onuma Sittirak

First of all, congratulations to the Dominican team. I'm happy to play them. We tried our best, but they're strong and tall, so it was difficult to break their block and counterattack.
