Thai coach, Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai
"The players tried to do their best. It's not so easy to win against one of best teams in the world. Today, the Italian team, players and coaches, taught many things to the Thai team. It was a great honour to play against one of the best teams in the world.
(Re. Playing with new players and two liberos)
"This situation is the first time we are trying it. Other teams haven't tried this style. With this style we will improve our playing spirit.
"We gave a chance to our second setter to try and improve the skill level of the team and because we need to improve our younger players and to give them good experience."
Thai captain, Wilavan Apinyapong
"We are not satisfied with the game, but we did our best and had a good experience. We learned a lot of things because Italy is a strong team.
"We had some problems, especially with our counter-attack and blocking, so we'll try and improve on them."
Italian coach, Massimo Barbolini
"I was very happy because we started with a victory in this tournament. But we knew that it wouldn't be easy to play against Thailand because of their quality and the way they play.
"So today for us was a good first match because Thailand played a very good match. We had some problems with reception, but in the end I think that we had good blocking and good defence and a very good transition attack, so we were able to win. But it wasn't an easy match. Now must think about our other matches. We know we must improve our way of playing match by match if we want to do our best in this tournament."
(Re. First set turnaround)
"The problem is that this is Volleyball and sometimes it can happen when the other team plays better. In this case, we had a little problem with 2 or 3 kill points in reception, but I think the Thai team showed good defence and good attack. It's normal when you play in a tournament at this level. It's better if this kind of turnaround doesn't happen, but it can happen that the other team can play better than you. Then you must play with patience, little by little, ball by ball."
Italian No. 12, Francesca Piccinini
"We were glad to win this game because it is not easy to play against Thailand, who are a fast team, and for few months we haven't played against an Asian team, so it took us time to get our rhythm back. We were pleased to get tough sets. The first set was tough to win, as were the second and third sets, but we played well and won."
