Setter Ahmed Abdalla: For me and for my team I am very happy today because we could play against a strong team like Cuba. The start was not good but after that the coach gave us some information and we started to play good in the court and won the second and fourth sets. The difference between this Grand Champions Cup and my previous one in 2005, when we finished fifth, is that the players of the teams now are young because they are upgrading their teams and building new teams, whereas before they were all very strong with a lot of experience.
Coach Antonio Giacobbe: Of course this was a difficult match for us because we know Cuba is a different level physically and technically and that is why it was not easy to play against them. But I think that this morning, when my team started to feel better, we improved so much and in the end we were able to face this team. That is why I am very happy because I received from my players a lot of information for the future.
Michael Sanchez: Today’s game was so tough and hard for us. I thought we would win easily before the match and during the first and second sets, but that was wrong and it was why we had to play a five-set match. Egypt played very well.
Coach Orlando Samuels: Today’s game was so tough. Egypt have power and high potential and today they played very well. Our team lost concentration during the match. Our players are very young so it is so difficult for them to keep concentrating. In every set they played differently, sometimes good and sometimes bad, and we are aiming to play consistently in every set. That is our target.
