High praise for Iran

Brazil

Coach Bernardinho: I thought Iran played an amazing game. They are a very good team on the court, playing with speed and a lot of heart, defence and block very well. This is the first time in all my years with the national team to play against Iran, and I am very impressed. We started a little slowly today, maybe because we spent a lot of energy against Cuba, and we thought our experience could prevail. But we had to play very hard at the end. Iran deserve a lot of compliments. We hope we can recharge our batteries for the next match against Poland.

Murilo Endres: It was not our best match in the competition, but it is a short competition and the important thing is to win. We have won and that is our second and now we have to think about Poland.

(Asked if he felt extra pressure as team leader in the absence of Giba): No, I don’t think so. We have a really good group in our team. We have 14 players in condition to play, and today we played with Thiago and Sidao, so Giba had a good time to rest. We have strong players in Brazil, not only the 14 in this competition, and that is why we can go to the finals in all competitions.

Iran

Coach Hossein Madani: I think it was a good match, especially for us, although we can play better, but I am satisfied with my players. You know we played against the best team in the world and had too much pressure for the players, but the players controlled all the pressure and played a very good match.

Captain Alireza Nadi: We played against one of the most powerful teams in the world. We tried to do our best and we played a good game. I am very happy that we played good. It could have gone to the final set in this match.
