Setter Bruno Rezende: I think we played a good first match today. We have played with one of the best teams in the world. They have a lot of young players and they are good players and it is very difficult to play against Cuba. We know that in the Grand Champions Cup any game is a final, so we have to enter very focused and very concentrated to play. For tomorrow, we had a little mistake in the counter-attack so we can improve, but we are very happy to beat a very good team like Cuba.
Coach Bernardo Rezende: We have to congratulate Cuba for a big fight. They have travelled a lot but are still very powerful and can come up with their serve like they did in the fourth set. As their coach said, we had a more experienced team and could control the tiebreak. It was a tense and difficult match. Tomorrow we play Iran. They had a great victory today against Egypt. We must give them respect and focus on our game and try and leave Osaka with two victories. That will be very important.
Coach Orlando Samuels: When I saw the schedule of this competition I thought it would be very tough. We had the time difference and it takes a long time to come here, and the first match is against Brazil so some of the players thought it was unfair. Brazil is difficult to play against. Our team could not maintain their concentration, so from the next match I want to ask my players to concentrate until the end of the match.
Captain Roberlandy Simon: Today we played a wonderful match. We had good points and bad points. Brazil was a tough opponent. Both teams had a possibility to win. Our team had some injured players, but this is not an excuse for losing the game. We want to do our best in this tournament to prepare for the London Olympics in 2012.
Wilfredo Leon: Today we had a good match, but there has to be a winner and a loser. I am really sorry for losing today because this competition is a world level event, so I did not want to lose any game. From tomorrow I want to win the rest of the games.
