Coach: Character was the key

Poland

Coach Daniel Castellani: First I would like to congratulate my players. This night is so important for us. We have not had a good tournament, and we needed to change something. We were more aggressive and we tried to play our best. I know we have a difficult condition physically, but most important our players showed a good character. Congratulations to Iran because they played very good, they play different, play fresh and they enjoy themselves. It is good when you see one team play this way.

Captain Michal Bakiewicz: It is a great relief that we can finally win a match here because it is very important for us. We wanted to show our volleyball from the start of the tournament. We played aggressively and with character and very determined. Also it is important to win the last match.

Iran

Coach Hossein Madani: I think it was a good match, but I believe if you do not believe you can win a match in your mind and in your heart it is not possible to win the match. Today we had this spirit. I think we could have won 3-0 but we lost 3-1.

(On missing four set points in the third set): As I said it was a mental problem, and they did not believe they could win this match. The second point is because of the intelligence of Mr. Castellani as a coach. He introduced one player whose serves were good and we made three bad receptions that made a good block for the Polish team.

Setter Saeid Marouf:  In this tournament our aim was to play well against the most powerful teams in the world, and I think we have done that. We played well against Poland and that is why they had to play with their full power to beat us. I am sure we will do better for the next tournaments and we will grow as a team for the next matches.
