Orlando Samuels Blackwood was born on 31st December 1946 in Esmeralda Camaguey, the Cuban city that has produced a long list of National Team players.
He was member of the Cuban team for several years, and he is a coach with international experience. He was Technical Director of the Cuban teams from 1985-1995 and he participated in various International competitions including the World League, World Championships, Olympic Games and World Cups.
He was nominated as best coach in 1989 when his team won the gold medal at the Pan American Games, Central American and Caribbean Games and the NORCECA tournaments.
