The FIVB World Congress in 2002 gave the official
go-ahead for this new category of players defined by height
limitation. The height limited competition was subsequently
dubbed U-175 and U-185 to indicate that it was open only to women
players under 175cm and men players under 185cm. The introduction of this new category is expected to open opportunities to more players to compete at a high level. Demographic studies show that some 94 percent of the world's population has an average height of less tan 175cm for women and less than 185cm for men. A big future is predicted for this competition once it becomes fully established. Presently, elite Volleyball tends to attract very tall players. |
