The key role of the FIVB
Development Department is to monitor and further the progress of
Volleyball on all continents.
Within the vicinity of their geographical area, Development
Centres intensify international cooperation in
Volleyball and Beach Volleyball, improve the professional
level and performance of these two disciplines, as well as
the technical and administrative structures of Volleyball
Associations in the surrounding countries.
This
is done by conducting clinics, courses and studies for
management, referees and coaches in accordance with
other programmes
approved by the FIVB and by providing informative instructions
and guidance to players, teachers,
coaches, referees and all other members of the Volleyball family.
Development Centres are currently
established on four continents and nine countries :
-
Africa – Sudan, Tunisia and
Senegal
-
Asia – India, Thailand and
Bahrain
-
North/Central America and the
Caribbean – Dominican Republic, Barbados
-
South America – Venezuela
The Barbados Development Centre
opened in 2006. From 2009, a new Development Centre will open in
Bogor, Indonesia to serve the needs of the affiliated National
Federations in South East Asia.
