The importance of the educational system for the promotion, development, and maintenance of volleyball in all of its forms from recreation through to high performance.

:: Target Audience ::

The symposium will be an opportunity for school and community representatives from all continents to interact and exchange ideas in practical and theoretical sessions. All providers, teachers, coaches, and administrators, who are actively involved in the educational system will be represented:

  • Government, sport, university, school leaders
  • Sport Governing bodies
  • Elected officials: President; Development Committee Chairman
  • Professional administrators: Executive Directors, Technical Directors
  • Coaches of children and youth
  • Educators
    • Academic administrators
    • University pedagogical professors and activity class instructors
    • Physical activity program designers
  • Recreation specialists.

:: Model Programs ::

Eight National Federations (NF’s)  have been invited to present their NF’s program(s) for school aged children:

Each NF will have opportunities to present their program in four different formats:

  • Lecture:  A classroom presentation describing characteristics of the successful program(s) in that NF
  • Practical Demonstration:  A gymnasium presentation illustrating programs from a practical perspective
  • Workshop:  A gymnasium session involving active participation and discussion with NF presenters.
  • Seminars:  Round table discussions with expert Main speakers and NF presenters

:: Symposia ::

Each symposium will consist of a series of three to four presentations organized around a common theme relevant to main theme in order to initiate and stimulate ideas.

  • Strategies for increasing Volleyball Participation in Schools
  • Building Partnerships
  • Structures and organizations.

:: Panel Discussion ::

Main speakers and Symposia presenters will have opportunities to participate in discussion and debate about the issues arising from the presentations.

:: Small group seminars / Breakout sessions ::

Small groups will conduct facilitated round table discussions based on the topics of the day. All seminars will be chaired by recognized leaders in the field. The emphasis will be on the:

  • exchange and discussion of ideas to bring together new and emerging strategies to enhance opportunities for children and youth
  • identifying common themes which can increase our ability to use existing methods.

:: Schedule ::

The contents will be organized in a general sequence as follows:

  • Days 1 and 2:  Pre adolescent children (between the ages of 6 years to 10 years)
  • Days 2 and 3:  Adolescents  (between the ages of 10 years to 14 years)
  • Days 3 and 4:  Youth  (between the ages of 14 years to 18 years)

The content of all Expert Lectures, Symposia presentations, Panel Discussions, NF lecture presentations and Demonstrations, and, Small group seminars will be recorded and made available to delegates in printed form and published on the Symposium webpage.
