The
Sudan Development Centre in Khartoum was
established in 1989 and serves nine countries in East and Central Africa. These include, the
African Zone 5 countries: Comoros, Egypt,
Eritrea,
Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania and
Uganda. The centre has been hugely successful in
improving the level of playing in the region,
increasing the number of qualified officials and
helping Volleyball in Sudan to reach the World
Youth Championships.
The Centre benefits from an outdoor and an
indoor court along with technical, sports and
education materials. Each year, the centre hold
international courses, sponsored by the FIVB,
for coaches, referees, management personals and
others. Other national courses are held every
few years including technical courses for
coaches and players, Beach Volleyball courses,
management courses and seminars on sports media,
players’ injuries, as well as instruction for
school teachers.
These courses are generating a great awareness
for Volleyball in the region. They are aimed at
increasing the number of people practicing the
game and make Volleyball the most popular sport
in the region.
