"The fans in Poland will go crazy if we win gold here" says coach Andrea Anastasi

Once again the Polish fans contributed a fantastic atmosphere as they cheered on their heroes at Earls Court

London, Great Britain, August 4, 2012 – “We concentrated on our game, this is really important. We hope to be the first (in pool A). We played as we wanted” said Poland’s best scorer Zbigniew Bartman after a speedy 3-0 win over Team GB. “We are in different levels than GB, we have different goals. Our goal is the final of course. We have to win” added team captain Marcin Mozdzonek.

“I hope to find out if this was Poland at our best - we want to play perfect volleyball. Our concentration and attention have been very good all season. Our system works and we just need to stay concentrated” singled out coach Andrea Anastasi. About the great atmosphere contributed by the fans in the stands: “Wherever in the world Poland play, it’s like a home game. We have played in Canada and Chicago and you get 10,000 Poles. Today was the same and the players say to me, Are we in Poland?' It’s unbelievable.” About the popularity of the sport in the country: “I think football is still the most popular sport, but we’ve got a lot of fans for volleyball and everyone was watching at home. They will go crazy if we win gold”.

“We knew it was going to be tough” commented GB captain Ben Pipes. “Our fans were just fantastic, and it was nice to see the crowd catching on. After four games, I think we’re developing our play and I think the crowd are developing theirs”.
