"Today you have seen a different Bulgaria" says match winner Tsvetan Sokolov
Tsvetan Sokolov was the real match winner for Bulgaria on Tuesday with a massive haul of 28 points; the giant opposite celebrates that terrific win by literally carrying around libero Teodor Salparov
London, Great Britain, July 31, 2012 – Bulgaria caused the first real sensation of the men’s volleyball tournament at Earls Court on Tuesday by beating pre-favorite Poland 3-1. “We needed to beat Poland especially since we had lost all of our previous matches against this team” said Bulgaria’s match winner Tsvetan Sokolov who recorded 28 points at the end of a terrific performance. “Today you have seen a different Bulgaria” he stressed.
“We were very motivated before the start of this match and even though I have been nursing an injury, I feel very good but I still need some more time to be back in my best shape” said Teodor Todorov, who also contributed 7 points to the Bulgarian cause on Tuesday. “We shall now take our next match with Australia because after beating Great Britain we would move to a perfect record of three wins and that would be just fabulous for us”.
"I am really proud that in this moment of chaos, with coaches coming and going, we're showing our character. This is something which fits very well to the nature and spirit of Bulgarian people" concluded captain Vladimir Nikolov.
“Sometimes things just don’t work out. We were very nervous and stressed, and perhaps we just wanted to win too much. We had huge problems with reception and attack. We played really bad” singled out Poland captain Marcin Mozdzonek. “I feel bad. Sometimes it happens like this, these are the Olympic Games”. As for the next match with Argentina coming up on Thursday, he stressed: “We have to play with a better attitude. We have a really good team and we have to improve. Now we need to calm down, work out a good strategy and wait for another game”.
