Six or seven teams have medal chances -Italy's Barbolini

Italy's Lucia Bosetti spikes during the match against Japan played in front of a full house at Earls Court on Monday night

Massimo Barbolini, Coach of Italy: There are six or seven teams with chances of winning a medal. My team grew up one step tonight and our goal as I said since the beginning is to win one of the podium positions.

Eleonora Lo Bianco, Captain of Italy: They were very good in defence. It is best to play day-by-day and take most of the points. The noise (around Earls Court) is great - it is a very good atmosphere to play.

Lucia Bosetti, Player of Italy: The Japanese have a very good defence, but we played very well. It was very good to win and we know the tournament is difficult. We want to qualify in the best possible position.

Yoshie Takeshita, Player of Japan: We made a few mistakes, but we played aggressively so I am not happy that we lost. But despite this, we will work harder for the next match. The energy from the Japanese (fans in the) crowd helps us a lot.

Sometimes it didn't go well. I am frustrated as I thought we were aggressive, but it could have been better.
