Ecuador celebrate their progress in the Continental Cup
Portoviejo, Ecuador, August 18, 2019 – Ecuador’s men’s team took full advantage of hosting the second leg of the CSV Continental Cup by winning the tournament to book their place in the next round.

Ecuador were made up of two teams, the first Pedro Jaramillo and Marcos Tenorio, and the second of Dany Leon and Ronald Quinones, and they helped the South Americans book their place by defeating French Guyana 3-1 on Sunday having beaten Bolivia on Friday.

Their victory in the tournament means they now join teams from Uruguay, Colombia and Venezuela in the Continental Cup Final from which the winner will earn a place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Continental Cup matches are played as a best of five rubbers, with countries represented by two teams. The tournament is made up of three phases and the winner of the third phase will book a place for their National Olympic Committee at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

French Guiana were represented by Jean-Christi Coelho and Joel Sarrucco, and Blakaman Koffi and Marc -Arthuur Zopje, and Leon and Quinones put the hosts 1-0 up with a 2-1 (15-21, 21-14, 15-9) victory over Coelho and Sarrucco.

Jaramillo and Marcos then won 2-0 (21-18, 21-11) against Blakaman and Zopie, but the French Guiana team hit back with a 2-0 (21-18, 23-21) victory over Leon and Quinones to make the score 2-1.

Ecuador secured the win when Jaramillo and Tenoria beat Coelho and Sarrucco 2-0 (21-11, 21-13).
