Top seeds show class on opening day at Pinarella di Cervia

Pinarella di Cervia, July 26, 2019 – First seeds Maksim Hudyakov and Igor Velichko lived up to their standing as first seeds with two wins from two at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Pinarella di Cervia 1-Star tournament. 

The Russians began with a 2-0 (21-8, 21-10) victory over Italy’s Emanuele Monduzzi and Giorgio Zauli and then followed up by beating South Africa’s Grant Goldschmidt and Leo Williams 2-0 (21-16, 21-16). 

Their compatriots Maxim Sivolap and Artem Yarzutkin also won two out of two, as did Austria’s Florian Ertl and Johannes Kratz. Italy’s highest seeds Jakob Windisch and Matteo Ingrosso completed the quartet of teams that advanced to the quarterfinals.

They began by beating fellow Italians Carlo Bonifazi and Fabrizio Manni 2-1 (21-12, 12-15, 15-12) and followed up by overcoming the USA’s Michael Boag and Timothy Brewster 2-1 (21-17, 19-21, 15-8). 

The Pinarella di Cervia 1-Star runs from July 25 to July 28 and is being played in a 2,000-capacity arena in the beachside resort on Italy’s north-east coast.
