Kiera Van Ryk: “We were relentless”

Kiera Van Ryk of Canada ready to spike against Coratia's Beta Duman?i? (#12) and Lea Deak (#17)
Lima, Peru, June 29, 2019 - Kiera Van Ryk, one of Canada’s leading attackers in their semifinal victory against Croatia, described her team as relentless in their efforts to qualify for the 2020 FIVB Volleyball Nations League.

Kiera Van Ryk, outside hitter Canada: “We played well as a team today, despite our ups and downs; in the end we were relentless, we kept on going one step at a time. I am excited to be in the final, this is what we trained for and what we play for as highly competitive athletes, we like these pressure situations.”

Tom Black, head coach Canada: “We just fought strong because for me it was an ugly match. Our serve-receive was not there, we were able to pick up our serving a little bit, our defence tightened; still I am proud we found a way. We have to be stronger and try to put pressure on the Czech Republic tomorrow because they are a very strong attacking team but they also defend really well too.”

Daniel Santarelli, head coach Croatia: “The mental part of the game is missing in my team. Croatia has young players, it is a risk I took, so they have many ups and downs; I am sure we will work harder to commit fewer errors, improve and grow up as a team.”
