Egypt's Al Ahly claim African Club Championship 'double'

Al Ahly players celebrate with home fans in Cairo as they pick up the 2019 African Club Championship title for the 14th time in their history.
Lausanne, Switzerland, April 10, 2019 - Cairo's Al Ahly successfully defended their title Wednesday night at home after beating Alexandria's Smouha 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-19) in the all-Egyptian final of the 2019 African Men's Club Championship.

Led by tournament MVP Ahmed Salah, Al Ahly dominated the competition from start to finish for their second straight and 14th overall continental title.

It was a 'double' for the Cairo club, who earlier this month had also seen their women's team triumph in the continental championship - a second such 'double' in as many years.

Earlier Wednesday evening in Cairo Al Ahly Tripoli outclassed Swehly 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 25-20, 25-21) in the all-Libyan bronze medal match. It was Al Ahly Tripoli's third bronze medal in the history of the competition, after similar successes in 2009 and 2013.
