FIVB visits International Military Sports Council in Brussels

Brussels, Belgium, January 15, 2019 - Representatives of the FIVB and of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) met in Brussels last week to discuss ongoing cooperation ahead of the volleyball and beach volleyball tournaments at the 7th CISM World Games in October 2019.

Topics discussed included the organisation of events, the development of snow volleyball, the increase of regional training centres and the availability of resources for coaches, building on a memorandum of understanding signed by the two organisations in 2016.

The meeting was held at the CISM headquarters in Brussels

The FIVB will ensure that 4- and 5-star events on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour do not clash with the 2019 World Military Summer Games in China. This will enable top-ranked athletes serving in the armed forces of the CISM's member countries to participate in the beach volleyball tournament at the Games from October 18 to 27.

The meeting at the CISM headquarters was attended by FIVB General Director Fabio Azevedo and New Events and Snow Volleyball Director Angelo Squeo. The CISM was represented through its Secretary General, Colonel Dorah Mamby Koita, Colonel Luiz Fernando Medeiros Nóbrega, Sports Director of CISM, Lieutenant-Colonel Rafael Soares Pinheiro da Cunha, CISM Sports Committees Manager and Lieutenant-Colonel Edson Aita, CISM Protocol Manager.
