Konstantinov: We will try to achieve the maximum

The coach of Bulgaria Plamen Konstantinov expects a tough match against Finland.
Varna, Bulgaria, September 8, 2018 Bulgaria and Finland are ready to deliver the world a great volleyball spectacular on Sunday night at 19:30 CET for the opening game of the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship 2018 at the Palace of Culture and Sports in Varna. The “Lions” of the Bulgarian coach Plamen Konstantinov will have the inspiring support of the legendary crowd in Varna! More than 5,500 fans will be in the stands to watch the World Championship match, 48 years after the first ever Bulgarian hosting of the biggest volleyball competition.

Plamen Konstantinov, coach of Bulgaria
- The most important thing for us at the beginning will be to get the maximum from the tournament first round. Because of that we will pay a special attention to every single game we play. If you do not manage to win as many matches as you play in the first phase, it will be very difficult to qualify for the Finals, despite your achievements in the next round. We want to be optimists despite all the problems we have. We hope that we will start on the best way. I do not want to give huge promises. If sport was completely certain, it will not be as interesting as it is. We will give our best and try to achieve the maximum as the host of the World Championship.

Viktor Yosifov, captain of Bulgaria – It is another World Champion for me, but it can be the last one. It is a special, because we are playing in Bulgaria. Obviously, we have problems with some injuries, but the strongest player is the collective! I expect everyone from the team to give their best and to finish this tournament in the best way possible.

Tuomas Sammuelvuo, coach of Finland – Actually, it is a great pleasure to be here. First of all I’m happy for the all the Finish Volleyball that we are here, playing against the best teams in the world. So, for us it is a great pleasure and honor to be here. Regards to the conditions, everything is great! We are just waiting to start the games. I expect a tough game against Bulgaria. Of course we will play in front of a great crowd. It will be a big Volleyball party. We will try to put them in a difficult situation. I think the first game is always a little bit special, so we tried to prepare everything in the best way possible!

Eemi Tervaportti, captain of Finland - Our first game against the hosts from Bulgaria is going to be tough for sure. I think it is going to be a little bit nervous as well, because it is the opening match of the whole tournament. We will see how we are going to react to the hall and the audience. The current World champion is in our pool as well as many other good teams, so it is hard to guess who will go through the second phase.
