Bari poised to host FIVB Men’s World Championship

High-ranking authorities from the Italian Volleyball Federation and the local Organising Committee attended Wednesday's press conference in Bari
Bari, Italy, September 5, 2018 - The Italian city of Bari will play host from September 12-18 to Pool C of the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship co-hosted by Italy and Bulgaria. The national teams of Australia, Cameroon, Russia, Serbia, Tunisia and USA are looking forward to keeping the fans thrilled throughout the 7-day tournament in Apulia, Italy. The national teams of Cameroon and Tunisia will open the programme on September 12 at PalaFlorio at 2.00 p.m.

A few days away from the eagerly anticipated matchups, a press conference took place in Bari on Wednesday. As many as 84 players representing six elite national teams will swing into action next Wednesday during the 7-day event due to take place at PalaFlorio.

Bruno Cattaneo, President of the Italian Volleyball Federation said: “The partnership with FIVB is of a great value to our Federation, meaning we have been providing by them with expertise and proficiency in organising this event. The upcoming tournament will be a showpiece competition with outstanding players starring on the court: Russia, USA, Serbia, Australia, Tunisia and Cameroon are the teams to follow here in Bari. The passionate fans in attendance will not be disappointed,” he said, expressing his gratitude to Bari and Apulia for their warm welcome and the great commitment to delivering this event and being crucial to its success.

Giuseppe Manfredi, Vice-President of the Italian Volleyball Federation said: “Apulia is always ready to take on several sports challenges and this is the most difficult to face. Making the venue crowded with cheering supporters and many volleyball enthusiasts will be crucial towards the achievement of this goal. Therefore, we are very determined, working hard and focused. The 2018 World Championship will take place in Bari four years after we played host to the women’s tournament; this confirms the role and status of Apulia as one of the top volleyball regions. USA, Russia and Serbia are strong teams and they will do their utmost to secure a spot in the next round of the competition. It will be a high-level tournament and I am sure we will achieve a great success.”  

Paolo Indiveri, President of the Regional Volleyball Federation said: “The round of the competition taking place in Bari offers a very important stage to our sport and our Committee is trying to promote plenty of events for clubs and volleyball aficionados alike.”
