Stade Pierre Mauroy has been transformed into the ultimate volleyball venue and will be the setting for five days of thrilling action, beginning on July 4. The world-class Stade Pierre Mauroy was opened in 2012 and is usually home to French Ligue 1 football team Lille OSC, but has also hosted elite basketball, tennis, rugby and handball events.

Local teams have been working with the FIVB to ensure all necessary preparations for the venue are in place before Wednesday’s opening fixture between Russia and Poland. VNL has taken over the city and with the French team arriving last week, excitement continues to build.

The VNL is the biggest revolution in volleyball in the past decade and has set new standards for athlete and fan experience. The format of the event, competition rules and prize money are all equal, demonstrating the FIVB’s commitment to promoting gender equality. Innovation is at the very heart of the VNL and by using the latest cutting-edge technology, the FIVB has provided fans, both in the stadium and watching all over the world, with the most engaging experience. Courtside DJ’s and volleyball-inspired dance moves have made fans part of the action, teaching them the sport and keeping them entertained during breaks in play. The FIVB has also partnered with Microsoft to launch the Volleyball App, which brings fans together from around the world, to watch highlights, read the latest news and discuss all the developments from each week in the VNL.

Last week at the Women’s Finals in Nanjing, China, the USA were crowned champions, twice coming back from losing positions to beat Turkey in five sets. As part of the Finals, Grammy-award winning DJ’s NERVO performed, raising the atmosphere in the Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium even higher. NERVO will be performing another set in Lille, which includes VNL anthem “Worlds Collide”, ahead of the gold medal match on Sunday July 8.
