FIVB seeking new ways to engage global fan base at Communication Commission meeting

The FIVB Communication Commission met at the FIVB headquarters on Monday.
Lausanne, Switzerland, January 22, 2018 - The FIVB Communication Commission met at the FIVB headquarters today to discuss new methods of attracting and engaging volleyball fans all over the world.

FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° talked with the Commission about the importance of inspiring both spectators and National Federations through the production of sport:

“Our goal at the FIVB is to attract people in new ways, not relying on traditional methods but capturing the attention of our audience,” he said. “At the Rio 2016 Olympic Games we invested in creating a show for all spectators, incorporating great production to maximise the action on court.

“We were the only International Federation to do this, and now we are looking at building on it for all of our major events, including the Volleyball Nations League. However, we hope that this will also serve as inspiration for our National Federations to discover original ways of connecting with local fans.”

FIVB Secretary General Fernando Lima said that it was important for the sport to continue exploring innovative communication strategies.

“The latest developments have been fantastic for volleyball and beach volleyball, and it is clear that an active, fan-engagement style of presentation is making the sport more attractive,” Lima said. “It is critical that we don’t hold back on ideas, and we invest time in developing our communications worldwide.”

President Graça also discussed the Federation’s major new partnerships with the Commission before announcing plans to establish an optimised calendar.

“I am very proud that we are creating new relations for the FIVB with strong companies,” President Graça added. “We are judged by the company we keep, so it is very important to be associated with strong global brands.”

The FIVB is embracing digital transformation to ensure that it engages with fans all over the world, sharing the latest content with them. More information about these partnerships will be released soon.
