Cameroon book return to World Championship

Cameroon (right) take on Algeria in the CAVB qualifier bronze medal match
Lausanne, Switzerland, October 29, 2017 – Cameroon secured the third and final CAVB place at the Italy-Bulgaria 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship when they won the bronze medal at the CAVB African Qualifier on Sunday.

The west African side beat Algeria 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-21, 27-25) and will join Egypt and Tunisia at the World Championship after they had booked their places by reaching the final on Friday.

The tournament doubled as the African Men’s Championship. Egypt were the defending champions and they also hosted the tournament at the Cairo Stadium Complex from October 22 to 29.

Tunisia finished the tournament as African champions after they defeated Egypt 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-15). It is their ninth title and first since 2003. Their win also stops Egypt’s run of six consecutive titles.

It means that the CAVB confederation will be represented by the same three teams that qualified for the Poland 2014 World Championship.
