Congo and Libya reach quarters at World Championship qualifier

 
DR Congo are into the CAVB World Championship qualifier quarterfinals, with one day of pool play remaining
Lausanne, Switzerland, October 24, 2017 – DR Congo and Libya became the fifth and sixth sides to qualify for the Italy-Bulgaria 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship CAVB African Qualifier quarterfinals following wins on Tuesday. 

Congo defeated Niger 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-23) and while Libya lost 3-2 (16-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-12) to Kenya they qualify with a better win-loss set ratio. 

Congo and Libya will join Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria and Rwanda in the quarterfinals, after they qualified on Monday. The two final spots will be decided on Wednesday as the pool stage draws to a close. 


The tournament doubles as the African Men’s Championship and Egypt are the defending champions. They are also hosting the tournament at the Cairo Stadium Complex from October 22 to 29 where three spots at the World Championship are on offer. 

At the Poland 2014 World Championship Cameroon, Egypt and Tunisia were CAVB’s three representatives. 

Algeria and Tunisia both won in straight sets to record their third victories from three matches. Algeria beat Rwanda 3-0 (25-18, 25-22, 25-21), while Tunisia overcame Ghana 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-15).

Morocco came back from losing the first set to beat Nigeria 3-1 (24-26, 25-20, 25-17, 25-22) and Botswana had a straightforward victory over Chad, 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-22).
