Argentina take double gold at Youth South American Games

Delfina Villar and Brenda Churin celebrate their gold medal
Santiago, Chile, October 7, 2017 – On a memorable day in Santiago, the South American Youth Games beach volleyball tournament ended on Saturday with Argentina claiming gold in the men's and women's competitions, finishing ahead of Brazil in both finals.

It was a positive performance for Argentina as they look ahead to the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games.

Delfina Villar and Brenda Churin kicked off the Argentine celebrations with a 2-0 (21-17, 21-15) victory over Brazilian rivals Maria Sena De Paula Silva and Thamela Coradello Galil. Villar and Churin reached the gold-medal match despite a defeat in the group stage against Venezuela. They strode forward after that, reaching the final with a semi-final victory over Bolivia.

Juan Bautista Amieva Tarditti and Mauro Zelayeta had to work a little harder as they claimed the men’s gold medal with a 2-1 (21-13, 19-21, 15-7) win against Gabriel De Abreu Lima Pisco and Gabriel Zuliani. Both teams entered the final undefeated.

The bronze-medal matches were tough contests, both ending 2-1.

In the women’s section, Venezuelans Diana/ Yhonnielis beat Bolivia’s Canedo/ Nicole 20-22, 21-10, 15-9, while on the men’s side Paraguayans Britos/ Riveros overcame the local favourites Brito/ Torrealba 19-21, 21-10, 15-10.
