Olympic Games future confirmed in historic agreement

Paris will host the 2024 Olympic Games and Los Angeles will host the 2028 Olympic Games
Lausanne, Switzerland, September 14, 2017 - It was officially announced yesterday at the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session in Lima that Paris will host the 2024 Olympic Games and Los Angeles will host the 2028 Olympic Games.

The IOC elected the two Host Cities following the ratification of a Tripartite Agreement which had been agreed between the IOC, Los Angeles, Paris and their National Olympic Committees. This historic dual awarding of the two host cities will ensure the stability of the Olympic Games for the next eleven years.

FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° hailed the IOC’s decision and said that he was very excited by both host cities.

“The IOC’s decision to award both bids with the Games was a truly historic moment for all the stakeholders of the Olympic Movement,” President Graça said.

“I was very impressed with the proposals we received from both Candidature Committees. I have no doubt that the world will enjoy watching indoor volleyball matches at Le Bourget-Pavillon II in 2024 and at the Honda Centre in 2028, and it is sure to be another incredible spectacle when beach volleyball takes place on the Champs de Mars in Paris and at Santa Monica Beach in Los Angeles.”

Volleyball and beach volleyball are both popular in France and the USA and, as part of the FIVB’s Nucleus Project, both nations will be central to the continued growth of the sport across the world. The French men’s national team won gold at this year’s FIVB Volleyball World League, while the American beach volleyball male pairing of Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena triumphed at the Swatch Beach Volleyball FIVB World Tour Finals last month. The women’s duo of April Ross and Lauren Fendrick won the silver medal at the 2017 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Vienna.

“We now look forward to collaborating with both Organising Committees to ensure a fantastic experience for athletes, fans and the entire volleyball family at both the 2024 and 2028 Olympic Games,” President Graça added.
