World Grand Champions Cup: USA prevail in five-setter against Japan

USA beat Japan 3-2 in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Grand Champions Cup in Nagoya
Nagoya, Japan, September 9, 2017 – USA sealed a hard-earned 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 26-28, 25-21, 15-12) win over hosts Japan in the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Grand Champions Cup.

USA improved their record to 3-1 but could only get two points from the win, which means that the most points they can earn on Sunday is 10 points should they win against Brazil with a 3-0 or 3-1 scoreline. The five-set match also meant that China are guaranteed of the 2017 title win with already 11 points in four matches.

The six teams participating in the Women's World Grand Champions will play each other in a round-robin tournament from September 5 to 10. Nagoya will host the remaining matches on Saturday and Sunday.
