World Grand Champions Cup: USA prevail in five-set encounter with Russia

 
USA opened the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Grand Champions Cup action in Nagoya with a tie-break win over Russia
Nagoya, Japan, September 8, 2017 – USA opened the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Grand Champions Cup action in Nagoya on Friday with a 3-2 (23-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-21, 15-9) win over Russia.

USA extended their winning streak over Russia to three wins in four encounters in the history of the competition. USA are on a two-match winning streak in the 2017 edition of the World Grand Champions Cup after bouncing back from their opening defeat to China in Tokyo. 

The six teams participating in the Women's World Grand Champions will play each other in a round-robin tournament from September 5 to 10. Tokyo hosted the first two matchdays - Nagoya will host the remaining matches on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
