World Grand Champions Cup: Russia stun hosts Japan 3-1

Russia beat Japan in the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Grand Champions Cup in Tokyo, Japan, to record their first win in the 2017 edition
Tokyo, Japan, September 6, 2017 – Russia stunned hosts Japan 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-22, 28-26) to record their first win in the 2017 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Grand Champions Cup.

The European side denied the home team their second straight win in the World Grand Champions Cup. Russia have never lost their second match in their previous four appearances at the tournament, when they beat Japan in 1993 and 1997, Brazil in 2001 and the Dominican Republic in 2013.

The six teams participating in the Women's World Grand Champions will play each other in a round-robin tournament from September 5 to 10. The matches on Wednesday will take place in Tokyo, then the matches on Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be played in Nagoya.
