Russia defeated Germany to win LOTTO EUROVOLLEY POLAND 2017
Krakow, Poland, September 3, 2017 - Russia defeated Germany 3-2 (25-19, 20-25, 25-22, 17-25, 15-13) at the Tauron Arena in Krakow on Sunday to claim gold at LOTTO EUROVOLLEY POLAND 2017.

It took Russia five sets to find a way past the Germans and claim the European Championship title for the fourteenth time. Germany claimed silver for their best ever result in the competition - their first ever podium finish.

The gold medal match was played after Serbia and Belgium met for third place earlier on Sunday. The Serbians, who lost to Germany in the semifinals, claimed bronze in five sets 3-2  (25-17, 22-25, 19-25, 25-22, 15-12).

Serbia's bronze medal was their 11th medal in the competition and their eighth bronze (including those won by Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro.) Only Russia (22, including 2017) and Italy (13) have bagged more European Championship medals.

Belgium finished in the top four of a European Championship for the first time.
