Czechs knock out France in EuroVolley playoffs

The Czechs celebrate winning a point against France
Katowice and Krakow, Poland, August 30, 2017 - The Czech Republic arguably caused the biggest upset in the LOTTO EUROVOLLEY POLAND 2017 playoffs on Wednesday by knocking out reigning 2015 European champions France. The Czechs played a brilliant game to pull off a 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-21, 25-20) victory in Katowice and set up a quarterfinal re-match with Germany on Thursday at 17.30 local time.

In Krakow, hosts Poland also crashed out at the playoff stage after losing to Slovenia 3-0  (25-21, 25-2
1, 25-19). The result means Slobodan Kovac’s side will face Russia in the quarterfinals at 17.30 on Thursday evening.

Also in Krakow, Bulgaria sealed their place in the last eight of the competition with a 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-11, 25-12) win against Finland.

In the first playoff fixture in Katowice, Gianlorenzo Blengini’s Italy squad knocked out Turkey with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 31-29) shutout.

Germany v Czech Republic at 17.30
Belgium v Italy at 20.30

Russia v Slovenia at 17.30
Serbia v Bulgaria at 20.30
