President Graça attends key meetings in China

Tianjin, China, September 29, 2017 - FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° was in Tianjin this week to meet representatives of the China Volleyball Association (CVA) and to discuss plans for future events and tournaments in China.

China plays a key role in international volleyball and organised popular competitions in 2017 including the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Finals in Nanjing and FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour events in Xiamen, Jiangning-Nanjing and Nantong. In July, it hosted the FIVB Beach Volleyball U21 World Championships. After also successfully organising both the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games, the infrastructure is in place for China to play a central role in the future of volleyball and beach volleyball.

President Graça also attended the National Games of China in Tianjin. Held every four years and sometimes called the 'mini-Olympics' of China, the Games are the country's top multi-sport event and feature Olympic sports including volleyball. Over 12 thousand athletes will participate in this year's edition across the 33 sports on the event's programme. They will be joined by 7,000 amateur sportsmen and women.

President Graça presents medals to the Jiangsu Province players who claimed gold in the women's volleyball tournament. The team included three Olympic champions.

FIVB President Graça is currently in China before he travels to Japan for the 2017 edition of the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Champions Cup which takes place from September 5-10 (women's competition) and from September 12-17 (men's competition) in the cities of Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka.
