Brazil defeated Italy 3-2 (26-24, 17-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-8), showing better end game especially in the first and third sets, where they came from behind huge leads by their rivals. Paola Egonu had a great scoring night for Italy, but Tandara Caixeta and Natalia Pereira responded better in crucial situations and led Brazil to a winning finish in the fifth set.

Natalia’s great performance against Italy in the gold medal match merited an MVP award. Natalia scored 22 points, including 20 attacks and two blocks. Natalia collected her second consecutive World Grand Prix MVP award, following last year’s citation in Bangkok, Thailand.

World Grand Prix Group 1 Final Standing

Serbia completed their 2017 World Grand Prix campaign with a bronze medal following their 3-1 (25-22, 20-25, 25-23, 25-21) triumph over hosts China. Boskovic scored 31 points for Serbia, who were defeated just once in their semifinal against eventual winners Brazil.

Boskovic’s prolific performance on offence and defence provided the Balkan team with its third bronze medal win in the World Grand Prix. The Serbians previously claimed third in 2011 in Macau, China and in 2013 in Sapporo, Japan.
