Chuan Jiang shines as China take their second victory

 

Kunshan, China, June 17, 2017 - Fantastic blocks led China to their second victory at home as they blazed into a 3-1 (17-25, 25-19, 25-23, 25-17) win over Australia in the third weekend of preliminary round of World League at Kunshan Sports Centre on Saturday.

Chuan Jiang took the majority of the scoring with a total of 23 points, his teammate Libin Liu contributed with 15 points. On the guest’s side, Lincoln Alexander Williams and Samuel Walker scored 19 points and 13 points respectively.

The hosts started well and took the lead 8-6. Australia leveled to 10-10 by hitting an strong ace. China lose the leading position as they committed several service errors, their opponents took advantage of that by smashing emphatics attacks, finishing 25-17.

China retained the momentum 8-4 and 16-14. Cheering by the exciting home crowd, Australia lost their moral as the hosts began to show their superiority 22-15. In spite of Australia saved two set balls, a powerful spike from Chuan Jiang sealed the set 25-19.

The third set remained close as China led 8-6. Australia leveled at 10-10. Later on, both side started to exchange point by point until the deadlock 16-16. China managed to widen the gap as Chuan Jiang delivered a decisive spike 25-23.

Good spikes and especially fantastic blocks helped China rush to lead 2-0 and 7-4 in the fourth set. Another emphatic two blocks led China led the score to 8-4 and 9-4. China showed their superiority again to lead 14-7. Australia managed two points in a row while China seized the initiative with tricky and powerful attacks, rushing to 17-10 and 22-13. Samuel Walker of Australia made his best effort by chasing three points in a row. A strong attack, Libin Liu finished the set 25-17.
