Gibb & Ross headline American domestic winners

New York, N.Y., USA, June 11, 2017 - Jake Gibb and Taylor Crabb won their first domestic event together and Olympian medalist April Ross earned her second this season as she teamed with Lauren Fendrick here Sunday to win the AVP Gold Series stop in the "Big Apple".

The victory was Ross' 29th career domestic tournament win, and her second with Lauren Fendrick. The pair won the 2015 Huntington Beach Open.  Gibb has now won 27 AVP Tour title with five different partners as he Crabb were playing in their second domestic together.

After Ross and Fendrick defeated Summer Ross (no relation to April) and Brooke Sweat 2-0 (24-22, 21-15) in the women's final, Gibb and Crapp posted a 2-0 (21-16, 25-23) win over Stafford Slick and Billy Allen in the men's title match.

The foreign pairing of Canadian Chaim Schalk and Brazil's Ricardo Santos tied for third in the men's competition.  Schalk and Santos, who had to win four qualifying matches Thursday to advance to the "money" rounds, are the first non-Americans to advance to an AVP semi-final since England's Gregg Weaver did in June of 2016 (with Avery Drost).

Canadian Sarah Pavan placed 13th in the women's competition with Schalk's wife Lane Carico.  Pavan and Carico had to win three qualifying matches Thursday, including a 2-0 (21-17, 21-15) second-round victory over Spaniard Elsa Baquerizo and Brazilian Maria Clara Salgado.
