Tillie names final squad for World Championship qualifiers

Earvin Ngapeth will be a key player for France
Lausanne, Switzerland, May 17, 2017 – France coach Laurent Tillie has announced the 14 players he has selected for the World Championship Qualifying Tournament which will take place from May 24 to 28 in Lyon, France.

After reducing the squad to 16, Tillie had to cut two more players and they were Montpellier’s Jean Patry and Daryl Bultor, who will train in Montpellier and remain on standby in case of injury or some other problem to the 14 selected players.

“It's a selection that was difficult to make because there is a lot of quality in the group, and especially in these two very promising youngsters,” the coach said. “It's interesting to see how they have integrated into the group in a short space of time and in relation to the instructions given to them and their level of play. With what they have shown during these eight days of training, they are likely to come back at a later date. They are still very young, but they really have a potential that interests us.”

The 14-man squad will leave Tours at the end of the week to settle in Lyon, where from Wednesday to Sunday they will face Iceland, Ukraine, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Germany. Only the top team will qualify directly for the 2018 FIVB World Championship in Italy and Bulgaria.
