Mozambique, Morocco lead the way in African Nations Cup

 
The African Nations Cup offers four tickets for each gender to the World Championships
 Maputo, Mozambique, May 13, 2017 – Mozambique’s women and Morocco’s men led their respective pools on Day 1 of the 2017 CAVB Beach Volleyball Nations' Cup in Maputo on Friday.


The top four teams in each category at the CAVB Nations Cup will qualify for the FIVB World Championships (July 28-August 6) in Vienna. 

In Pool A of the women’s tournament, hosts Mozambique got off to a perfect start, breezing past Benin 2-0 (21-16, 21-10) and overcoming Mauritius 2-0 (21-17, 21-13) to lead Pool A. Kenya also stayed undefeated in Pool A after beating Sierra Leone 2-0 (21-13, 21-17) and Benin 2-0 (21-12, 21-5).

In Pool B, Morocco overcame Nigeria 2-1 (21-14, 20-22, 15-13) and Namibia 2-0 (21-16, 21-12) to lead the pool over Rwanda, who won against South Africa (21-18, 21-12) and Nigeria (21-11, 19-21, 15-7) but suffered a defeat against Namibia (21-11, 19-21, 15-13).

In the men's category, Morocco beat Rwanda 2-0 (21-13, 21-15) and continued their victory rhythm against Sudan 2-0 (21-14, 21-18) and Mauritius 2-0 (21-14, 21-17) to lead Pool A. They were followed by hosts Mozambique, who won against Mauritius (21-11, 21-10) and Sudan (21-15, 21-6).

Pool B saw Tunisia dominant after they topped Kenya 2-0 (21-15, 22-20) and Sierra Leone 2-1 (21-13, 14-21, 15-13).
