VakifBank, Rexona-SESC Rio reach Kobe 2017 final after four-set wins

 
Rexona-SESC Rio have reached the FIVB Volleyball Women's Club World Championship after they won over Volero Zurich in four sets.
Kobe, Japan, May 13, 2017 – VakifBank Istanbul and Rexona-SESC Rio will face each other in the final after their 3-1 victories in the semifinals of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s Club World Championship at Green Arena Kobe on Saturday.



In the Turkish derby between VakifBank and Eczacibasi, the former reigned 3-1 (25-20, 25-23, 23-25, 25-22) in the first semifinal match. After denying Eczacibasi of a three-peat win, VakifBank will now have the chance to win their second title in the tournament.

Rexona-SESC tendered Volero Zurich’s first loss in the tournament with a 3-1 (25-13, 25-16, 21-25, 26-24) finish in the second semifinal match. The Rio de Janeiro-based club utilised their best qualities to overcome the much taller Swiss squad.



The two semifinal winners have previously faced each other at the final stage of the 2013 edition of the Women’s Club World Championship, where the Istanbul-based side reigned in straight sets over the Rio squad.

VakifBank and Rexona-SESC will play for the gold medal at 19:10 local time on Sunday, May 14. Eczacibasi and Volero Zurich will fight for the bronze medal at 12:10.



Meanwhile, Dinamo Moscow moved forward with a 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-15, 25-18) win over NEC Red Rockets to play the battle for fifth place at 9:40. They will face Osasco Voleibol Clube, which won over host club Hisamitsu Springs 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-21) in the classification stage.



NEC Red Rockets will play their rivals Hisamitsu Springs in the third match of the day at 14:40 for the seventh and eighth places.
