Argentina look ahead to World League

Argentina will play in World League Group 1
Buenos Aires, Argentina, May 12, 2017 - A press conference will take place at the “La Voz del Interior” auditory in the city of Cordoba on Wednesday 17 at 12.00 looking ahead to Argentina’s most important weekend of the season in its return to FIVB Volleyball World League Group 1. Argentina will take on Serbia, Brazil and Bulgaria at the Orfeo Superdomo Stadium from June 16 to 18, in week three of the 2017 World League.

Province, FeVA and Cordoba Federation authorities will be present, along with players of the national team and representatives of event managers Proenter, marking the start of the countdown to coach Julio Velasco’s team biggest challenge in 2017, which local television viewers will be able to follow on TyC Sports.

Julio Velasco's team will take on some challenging opponents in the absence of Facundo Conte, including Olympic champions Brazil, reigning World League champions Serbia, and Bulgaria.

The Orfeo Superdomo will serve as the venue for the weekend's matches. It also welcomed World League matches in 2010, when Argentina qualified for the Final 6 as the World League Finals hosts.

Argentina will play in World League Group for the second consecutive year, alongside the best teams in the world. The 12 teams in Group 1 are split into four groups over three weekends. The top five teams from the pool rounds will progress to the World League Finals alongside Finals hosts Brazil.

In 2016, Argentina played at a very high level to beat France, Russia and Serbia, but were unable to progress to the Finals. Argentina then went on to participate in the volleyball tournament at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Before playing its World League matches in Cordoba in week three of the 2017 competition, Argentina will first travel to Kazan, Russia, where the team will take on Russia, Bugaria and France. Velasco's men will then travel to Tehran and play Serbia, Belgium and Iran in week two.
