Novara take down Modena for historical first title in Italy

Lausanne, Switzerland, May 11, 2017 - Igor Gorgonzola Novara swept Liu Jo Nordmeccanica Modena 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-17) Thursday night in Modena to claim their first ever title of the Italian women's A1 League after clinching the best-of-five final series with three wins to one.

It comes after a failed attempt at the title in 2015, when Novara finished runners-up to Pomi Casalmaggiore.

Croatia's Katarina Barun once again led Novara with 18 points with Celeste Plak of The Netherlands adding another 13 and Cristina Chirichella 12. Modena's best scorers were Laura Heyrman of Belgium and Neriman Ozsoy of Turkey with nine each.

Novara were all over Modena outserving them seven aces to one and outblocking them 13 stuffs to ten.
