Portugal building to World Championship Qualifiers

Portugal vice-captain Marta Hurst is looking ahead to play in front of her home fans
Lausanne, Switzerland, May 11, 2017 – The city of Viana do Castelo in Portugal will have the eyes of European volleyball upon it when hosts Pool F of the Japan 2018, FIVB Volleyball Women’ World Championship European Qualifiers.

Portugal will face Germany, Slovenia, France, Finland and Estonia in the Viana do Castelo Cultural Centre from May 31 to June 4 with a place in the final round of qualifiers on the line.

For now, Portugal’s players are hard at work in preparation for the tournament that begins with them facing France.

“It is a huge pleasure to try to qualify for a World Championship in Portugal and above all in Viana do Castelo, where we enjoy very good training conditions and we have always been cherished,” Portugal vice-captain Marta Hurst said.

“In our squad of 16 players, only three are over 23 years old which shows we have players with potential and they still have a lot of room to grow. We are in good physical condition and highly motivated.”
