Fourth stop on South American Tour gets under way

The tournament in Venezuela finishes on April 30

Lausanne, Switzerland, April 28, 2017 – The fourth stop on the South American Beach Volleyball Tour got under way on Friday at the Batalla de las Queseras Arena complex in San Fernando de Apure, Venezuela.

One of the best encounters on the first day was the match between Venezuela 3 (Villafane/ Petrer) and Brazil 2 (Bernat/ Vinicius). The Brazilians dominated the first set 21-10, but the Venezuelans rethought their game and made a brilliant comeback in front of their home fans, taking the second set 21-12 and the tiebreaker 17-15.

On the women’s side, Colombia 2 (Diana/ Yuli) had to fight hard to prevail over Chile 1 (Rivas/ Mordones). The Colombians grabbed plenty of second chances as they took the first set 21-18, but in the second set mistakes let the Chileans back in and they took the set 21-15. In the third, both pairs showed what they were made of but Diana and Yuli had the edge, taking the set 15-12.

Gaston Baldi from Uruguay, who is playing with Hans Hannibal, commented: “We had two difficult matches: The first we did not play well and we lost 2-0 (21-16, 22-20); the second we played at a difficult time – 3 in the afternoon – but we were lucky and we could win 2-1 (19-21, 21-15, 15-11) against Argentina 2 (Bautista Gazaba and Tomas Diaz).”
