Venezuela ready for fourth stop of South American Tour

Apure State in Venezuela will host stage four of the South America Tour
Lausanne, Switzerland, April 27, 2017 – San Fernando de Apure, in Apure state in Venezuela will host the fourth stage of the South American Beach Volleyball Tour and welcome teams from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Paraguay and Uruguay, from April 28 to 30. 

Among the beach volleyball stars heading to the tournament are Colombian sisters Claudia and Andrea Galindo and Argentina’s Olympians Ana Gallay and Maria Zonta. 

“Venezuela has already hosted a number of international beach volleyball events, Venezuela Volleyball president Judith Rodriguez said. “We have been working hard to develop our beach volley and why we brought back Mauro Hernandez as coach.”

Venezuela’s women will be led by their Olympic duo Norisbeth Agudo and Gabriela Brito, who competed at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympic Games. 

Another pair of Olympians Jesus Villafane and Igor Hernandez, who competed at London 2012, will lead the men’s team, but Villafane will play with Rolando Hernandez and Igor Hernandez will compete alongside Gerardo Mendez. 

“I am in good shape and I hope to give my best in this tournament,” the 40-year-old Igor Hernandez said. “I do not think that I would play again with the national team.”
